Dear Neighbors in Paradise,
Another action packed week, my countdown timer for the end of my Board term as of writing is at, 28 days, 23 hours, 38 minutes and 14 seconds…not that I’m counting!!!
As I’ve stated before, mine as well as the other Boards members hope is to at least right the ship and set it off on a reasonable course for the new Board to take over.
Talking about the new Board, don’t forget the candidate forum in the upstairs clubhouse this coming Wednesday evening, a Zoom invite will be sent out via email. Please take the time to meet your candidates, hear their experience and plans for the resort’s future should they get elected. Good luck to all candidates.
This week, we have offered our new finance manager candidate the already budgeted part time position which we fully expect her to accept and start soon. This should help out tremendously in streamlining our financial goals and initiatives.
Thank you to all that attended the Zoom Owners Q&A session this past Sunday morning. I believe we had ~112 owners in all call in and received ~65 questions. We may hold another in the next couple of weeks, although with the annual Board and Owners meetings coming up in early April, we may just hold off until then. A huge thank you to Karen Gardner for moderating, it was a much bigger task than we all expected, especially with her being remote in Florida. She did a fantastic job which we are eternally grateful for. On the subject of thanking Karen, she continues to update the Owners Portal with help from Hawk Media and Glenn Rockwood. It’s looking great not to mention getting a much needed document cleanup.
Talking of Glenn, he and Spiros stepped up to the plate to try and fill the lofty shoes Wendy left empty this past Monday. We all met with Wendy a number of times on Monday to get trained and take notes on certain aspects of her job that Terrence, Mark and others may not be that familiar with.
Glenn in particular has been doing a yeoman’s job this week of keeping things running in the office, supporting Terrence and the work-campers. As a side note, he is also receiving and responding to as necessary, all emails sent to manager@hhimr.com. We should all be thankful that Glenn with his very detailed and concise approach to matters is graciously providing as much of his time as he is, thank you Glenn.
Spiros and Glenn met with our current work-campers, Terrence and Mark earlier this week. They all expressed their sadness at Wendy’s leaving, but were all very supportive to the challenge of managing operations in the near term. The remaining work-campers all made a point of stating that they all worked very well together and are committed to keeping Paradise fun and welcoming, they’re great people. Thank you. We have two new work-camper couples joining us in April. I sat in on part of one of the interviews, and they were fun and bubbly and really looking forward to joining our great team.
Spiros and Glenn did ask our work-campers why we don’t see them as often as we would like at some of our resort events. Sadly they reported that they still feel that some owners treat them as you might have treated servants in past years, we were sad to hear that. I know many of you make them all feel welcomed, buy lunch on occasion and bring in other treats when returning to the resort, thank you to those that do. We all share the common love of RV’ing, let’s all make a point of helping them feel like members of our great family.
While work-camper is a known term regularly used around the country for folk who stay at a resort for a period of time, where part of their renumeration is a lot to use and enjoy. I must say, I personally don’t care for the term “Work-Camper”, it does have a them and us feel to it, at least to me it does, which I don’t like.
How about we come up with a new and nicer name to call our work-campers, I don’t know, Paradise Ambassadors, Paradise Host, Paradise Pelicans, oh wait, that could get abbreviated to PP’s…not good, scratch that one. How about you all get your thinking caps on and come up with some ideas. I’ll tell you what, send in your suggestions to president@hhimr.com, we’ll ask our current work-campers to pick the top three they like, send them out for an owner vote and the winner will receive a prize a $100 gift certificate to Kind of Blue.
In closing, yet again, please don’t get caught up in some of the vitriol, fact twisting or totally untrue statements being made on social media. We continue to try and correct course and bring harmony back to Paradise.
We as a Board want to thank all of you that have reached out to us this week thanking us for our time and dedication to Paradise and also showing your support and offering to help. I can tell you it truly does mean a lot given the long hours we are all putting in trying to make things right.
May you always be lucky and your rainbow land on a pot of gold.
