World Class Golfing on Hilton Head Island

On Hilton Head Island, golf is a major attraction and the numerous courses draw visitors from around the globe to test their skills. With more than 33 championship courses, the island has something for every skill level, including the professionals who play nearly every day. The world-renowned golfing makes the region a hot bed for RV travelers carrying along a set of clubs.

All Skill Levels Welcome

Although Hilton Head is well known for high level championship golf, the area is very beginner friendly. The golf culture is rich and there are few places where so many professionals are readily available for lessons and instruction. Individual and group lessons are available on nearly every course and so long as a PGA tournament event is not active, scheduling time is a breeze.

Intermediate and casual players will also find plenty of options and are welcomed with open arms. Casual play is an everyday occurrence and there is plenty of fun to be had on beautiful, perfectly manicured courses. With over 30 options in the immediate area, it’s really hard to go wrong here. The only issue golfers encounter is not having enough time to play through it all.

A Few Favorite Courses

There are several famous and very well-known courses on Hilton Head Island and many visitors fall into their own routine of visiting a favorite course or two on a regular basis. Long term visitors have the option to join a home favorite course with a membership program as well. This is always a good option after finding your sweet spot on a great course.

The Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort is a local favorite because it has one of the oldest and most challenging courses in the area. It also comes with the bonus of having exceptional views of the Atlantic Ocean on the beloved 10th hole. The same resort also has the George Fazio and Arthur Hills courses, making the resort a great option for membership. The George Fazio course is ideal for multiple skill levels with the option to play up a tee or two. Both courses have excellent views and are perfect for golfers wanting variety and challenges under a single resort umbrella.

The Sea Pines Resort offers a similar situation with a variety of excellent courses. The Harbour Town Golf Links draws PGA players for a reason. The course features incredible views on the links and some serious variety in terms of distance and technical greens. The same resort also has the Atlantic Dunes course which is an incredible place to play. It’s also a public course and is open to anyone wanting to schedule a tee time. The Atlantic Ocean views make this among the most scenic courses in the area.

Enjoy the Local Ecosystems

While many golf obsessed individuals can play every day, the courses coincide with amazing ecosystems and alternative activities. The ability for multi-activity days is a real possibility as well. Hiking, beaches, bicycle trails and equestrian facilities open the door to much more than golf. Pay attention while playing through the courses as well. The Sea Pines Forest Preserve is a very large wild area with plenty of trails and paths traversing along marshlands where wild birds and local wildlife are frequently visible.

Wind Down with a Bite

After a long day on the course, winding down in the clubhouse and local restaurant is a great way to relax while filling up on some local eats. While Hilton Head is a golf paradise, the geographical location is a culinary dream where fresh shrimp, crab and fish are easily found. If you love seafood, chowders and world class Italian, there are few other places that compare. Hudson’s, Reilley’s Grill and the Crazy Crab are just a few of the great options. The resorts and clubhouses are not light on food and beverage options either. For Italian, Michael Anthony’s Cucina Italiana is the place to visit.

Watch the Professionals

Hilton Head courses not only attract big PGA names but they also host PGA tournaments and local competition play throughout the year. If you want to see the best players in the world, plan a visit to coincide with a tournament and spend some time studying the best golfers in the world. PGA events are exciting and flat out fun.
