At Hilton Head, long term visitors and lot owners are afforded the luxury of really setting up a comfortable space. The outdoor area specifically is available for bulky items like patio furniture that temporary visitors do not normally carry. Go all out and really make your lot a home with simple decor and items that allow for outdoor cooking and the ability to really live in comfort.
Most motorcoach travelers pack light and use portable outdoor furniture. While you can set up a great space using folding chairs and tables, having the luxury to use solid furniture can help to develop an incredible space. Invest in a nice set of chairs and even a love seat designed for patio use. Comfortable cushions that are easy to wash will create a gathering area that is ideal for watching the sunset or lounging under the Hilton Head stars. Consider complementing the ground space with an outdoor rug or woven ground cover. It’s especially nice for walking around barefoot while having a soft, comfortable surface for your feet.
Sitting around the campfire creates an unforgettable ambience and permanent RV sites can really benefit from a nice flame. A gas fire feature is ideal for adding a little heat and a safe campfire setting to your space. Take precautions to ensure the flame is in compliance with the resort and is set up in a safe manner. Many gas fire features are designed to have a controlled flame that is contained and requires no maintenance when in use.
Traveling with a portable grill is great but long term visitors can take their grilling station to the next level. Consider a larger grill that uses gas or coals. A grill that doubles as a smoker can really take your cooking game to another level. Slow cooking meats and smoking them throughout the day is one nice way to spend your time. The bounty of fresh fish on Hilton Head also makes a smoker valuable for cooking and preserving that catch. Your neighbors will be jealous and don’t be surprised if a few come to say hi after smelling the delicious meals being prepared throughout the day.
Shade and Insect Protection
Your RV awning is likely sufficient for shade but adding an independent shade structure with netting is a really nice addition. Place a table and a few chairs inside the space and it will create a very nice area for eating and managing food without the addition of flies, bees and other hungry insects. Numerous portable style structures are available with stable, long lasting designs. The structures are great during gatherings where food is set out. The screen netting delivers protection and the cover offers a nice shaded area to sit and gather when the sun is high. Additional insect protection from tiki torches also helps to set the mood while keeping the bugs away. There are plenty of insect devices worth investigating to keep your space clear and comfortable as well.
Tiki torches are great for the mood but they are not always necessary. String lights make it easy to turn on mood lighting at any time. If you want to sit outside for an hour or an entire evening, the lights are convenient and they come in models that are not overbearing and bright. String them from your awning and around the exterior of the motorcoach. String lights are often battery powered but you can also find options that recharge on a small solar panel. These are excellent for low maintenance lighting that will last for a very long time.
A few outdoor plants can really bring the lot to life. Choose low maintenance options that add a little greenery to the patio. Only use potted plants because modifying and digging up the ground space is not an option. Flowers and shrubs that fit the climate zone will make your outdoor space feel pleasant and relaxing. Visit a local nursery to find options that will work well in the low country climate zone.
A few personal touches are always great for creating a unique space that is completely yours. A door mat, a few basic signs or an American flag can go a long ways towards turning your lot into a real home. Keep it simple and use a minimalist approach to avoid creating clutter in the space but don’t be afraid to add your own style and taste to the lot.
